Service Description: Harmonised EEA administrative boundaries vector layer based on the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS0, NUTS1, NUTS2, and NUTS3) in its 2021 classification extended to statistical regions of non-EU countries in Europe, i.e. it covers EEA38 member countries, United Kingdom and Gibraltar, Andorra, San Marino, Monaco and the Vatican City (EEA38+).
This service has been created mainly for visualization purposes, to be used in the Map viewer downloading service in the new CLMS portal.
The current NUTS 2021 classificationis valid from 1 January 2021 and lists 92 regions at NUTS 1, 242 regions at NUTS 2 and 1166 regions at NUTS 3 level.
The NUTS classification (Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics) is a hierarchical system for dividing up the economic territory of the EU and the UK for the purpose of:
- The collection, development, and harmonisation of European regional statistics
- Socio-economic analyses of the regions
NUTS 1: major socio-economic regions
NUTS 2: basic regions for the application of regional policies
NUTS 3: small regions for specific diagnoses
- Framing of EU regional policies
Regions eligible for support from cohesion policyhave been defined at NUTS 2 level
The Cohesion reporthas so far mainly been prepared at NUTS 2 level
